A New World Company, known as Fish Aficionados, just broke the world speed record for killing the games’ pirate queen, known as The Siren – waxing her deck in an impressive 45 seconds. One of New World’s arena trials, the Sirens battle has a time limit of 15 minutes, and winning usually takes a good chunk of that while avoiding the ball lightning and barrage of harpoon spears lobbed by the spear-wielding chanteuse.
This impressive time trial was inspired by the games’ newly implemented leaderboards, which give rewards for being among the best on your server to accomplish various in game tasks, including beating ‘mutated’ dungeons, chalking up PvP kills and beating open world bosses.
Since New World devs can rarely execute anything on the first go – the leaderboards currently only reward number of completions of player vs environment events like Sirens – which is a strange metric to compete on, as it mostly relies on who can craft the most trial orbs, not who is the most effective at the actual trial.
In the words of Fish Aficionados governor, BeerBelliedBear:
No one, ever, has cared how many times you completed a trial in any time period. A competition to see how many people you can convince to bring you with them on a trial after you’ve used the five keys you can make each week is completely pointless.
There is a timer built into the trials. Why wouldn’t you track performance using the built in timer?! How could you possibly think that the number of trial completions is a more entertaining statistic to track and compete over, especially when you lock the number of BoP keys we can create each week?!
Why are we competing for a cape to show we can convince people to bring us to their trial runs, when we could be competing based on completion time?!

So, while the time trial record isn’t memorialized on the game’s official leaderboards, it is recorded in places like Speedrun.
