What is Alphabet Lore?
My three year old is obsessed with Alphabet Lore, an Infinity Wars-inspired epic conflict between ‘F’ and the remaining letters of the alphabet. The antagonist ‘F’ plays a Thanos-like role of collecting special abilities from slain letters to enhance his own powers.
In the second act, via some flashback sequences to a lowercase past, we discover that ‘F’ had been bullied by the other letters, primarily the roided-out ‘LMNOP’ Captain Planet-like pentad.
‘F’ is exiled to a dark cave where he becomes embittered and plots revenge.
This relatively simple culmination of a Joseph Campbellian Hero’s Journey has captured the imagination of my three year old as well as millions of others, apparently. The original full Alphabet Lore saga has 85 million views, and has been extensively memed by Youtuber Tot-Juggernaut, Lankybox.
Not to be outdone, GM Animation just dropped a retro-tastic mashup of Alphabet Lore Fonzie, ‘A,’ traversing the boards of Super Mario 3. Oddly satisfying, and another way for a Gen Xer or Millennial to bond with their pop-culture savvy toddler.
