Happy New Year! What better way to start the year of right then with some new free games from PlayStation for its PlayStation Plus members! If you haven’t downloaded the months free games to your library, you’re missing out! You don’t have to download them to your console until you’re ready to play, but if you save them to your library they can be downloaded whenever you like, as long as you’re an active PlayStation Plus member.
Persona 5 Strikers
Persona 5 Strikers is the 2020 crossover hit which has borrowed game elements of its predecessors Persona and Dynasty Warriors. It’s both a real time action fighting as well as a turn based combat game.
In Persona 5 Strikers, the player is in control of the main character, Joker, as he and a group of companions investigate strange events happening to people in Japan.
Players can switch Personas which are won in battle against mini-bosses. Personas can be combined to create new Personas. Personas can also have their stats strengthened by bonding with them. Bonding happens by interacting with party members, finishing story missions, and wining in battle.
The game itself is full of mystery, intrigue, and tough choices to find out who or what is causing all of the irrational behavior in the people of Japan.
Deep Rock Galactic
Deep Rock Galactic has been available on the Microsoft platform for over two years and has now been made available for the first time ever on the PlayStation platform for free!
Deep Rock Galactic is a first person shooter for up to four players. It is a PVE game so there is no player on player combat. The player controls a space dwarf who is exploring caves looking for minerals, artifacts, and abandoned equipment.
The player can pick one of four roles the driller, gunner, scout or engineer. Each class has three primary weapons and two secondary weapons that can be eventually unlocked by leveling up. When first starting out the player only has one main and one side gun. Each class has its own specific talents and unique weapons, so players will need to find the best fit for their playing style. Players are also able to overclock equipment to give it an increase in stats. Warning: some overclocking can give you a worse benefit then a positive gain.
Dirt 5
Dirt 5 is a simulated off-road racing game where players can take place in ice racing, rally cross, or stadium super truck races set in real world locations like New York and South Africa. Dirt 5 is part of the Colin McRae Rally and Dirt series. It was nominated for the Best Racing Game of 2020.
Dirt 5 has a four person split screen option so players can go head to head with their pals in the same room. There’s also online multiplayer available.
Dirt 5 does have a career mode/storyline that puts the player against a rival in story based races for an overall Championship title.
One of the most unique features of Dirt 5 is the ever-changing environmental system and seasons. Players can only take place in certain races when the season is right. So if the player wants to race in snow, they’ll have to wait until the winter months. The environment changing adds a level of difficulty and skill to the race. The elements effect how the car responds to the track, as in, players can’t break and turn as well.
This was the last game developed by CODEMASTERS before they were purchased by the giant EA in 2021.
