Let’s get into this months robust selection of fun games!
Knockout City – (PS5, PS4)
The five D’S of dodgeball still apply to this EA version of a dodgeball game set in futuristic knockout city where evil robots have trapped the citizens and forced them to play…dodgeball. If I hadn’t just watched Squid Game I would have probably have made fun of such a silly premise, but now, what the hell, play ball!
The rules of the game are very similar to the classic dodgeball rules: if hit with the ball you’re out, catch a ball and you’re safe and the other player is out, etc. beware of the environment around you because that can also cause a player more headaches than balls being thrown at your head.
there a few more nuances to the game as well as varying game modes like team deathmatch, Diamond dash, or ball up, mode that has players throwing other players to get people out. To help players get an edge over others, there are special balls that have power ups like extended jumping or exploding on impact.
First Class Trouble (PS5, PS4)
Imagine being aboard a luxury space cruiser when the A.I. turns against you and you don’t know who to trust to survive. That’s the premise of first class trouble where players team up against other players in a game of skill and deception.
The goal of First Class Trouble is to shut down the rogue AI of the ISS Alithea before it’s too late or if you’re a Personoid you have to gain the trust of the resident and cast doubt on the others while leading everyone to their doom. It’s a fun twisted game that will make your trust no one.
Players are able to customize their avatar to their liking and can play as either a Passanger or a Personoid. As players progress in the game they have the chance to unlock cosmetic items to personalize their avatars.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning – (PS4)
A remake of the original 2012 release, this game world was created by RA Salvatori and art by Todd McFarlane. The game takes place in a fantasy world known as the Faelands. There are several species that are fighting a crystal war of immortality against winter fae.
The player is the hero of the game known as the ”fateless one”, A warrior that was killed before the story of the game began. The player is revived in a lab by a gnome and doesn’t remember much of their past.
The player has a choice between four races, two human and two elves, as well as 3 different skills trees, fighter, rogue, and mage. Combat is similar to other like games with button sequences and timing being the key to successfully strikes.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – (PSVR)
Nominated for best VR/AR game in 2020 The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners is an amazing experience and example of the kind of gameplay fun that can only be had with virtual reality!
The gamer plays as “the tourist” who is trapped in New Orleans during a zombie outbreak. The player has to locate items to put together the tools needed to survive.
There are two factions fighting for control over the “Big Easy” as well as several types of zombies. Players have to “brain” zombies as well as humans who have died, unless you want to deal with the zombie version of them. Players can unlock receipes found in drops and in special locations to craft better equipment.
Aside from the main storyline there are two additional games modes “the trial” and “aftershocks”. aftershocks was part of a DLC that was released in September 2021 and the developer says that this is just the first “bite” of what’s to come for the game.
The Persistence – (PSVR)
In the persistence the player is the lone survivor on a derelict space freighter who needs to repair the ship and return to earth. It’s not just a simple repair gig, the player has to face off against an endless amount of mutated clones of former ship mates that the crazy ship keeps printing!
If the player dies during gameplay their memory is uploaded to the ships AI and is re-printed into a new clone version of your former self. This is great but dying does have some consequences to the ship as well. every time a player respawns as a new clone the ship does too so the experience will be unique, ever changing, and challenging!
Players can go a step deeper into the reality by connecting a phone or tablet to the game that allows them to lure hordes and interact with environments in real time!
Until You Fall – (PSVR)
Until you Fall is an awesome sword fighting VR game that puts the player in a face to face rave like battle with opponents, monsters, and other horrors! Using two motion controllers the player is thrust into a literal hack and slash experience, make sure you stretch before attempting to play this game!
Players can master different combos and fighting styles as well as unlock new weapons and upgrades.
Until you Fall has been nominated and has won several awards and is touted as a game that “is never the same” nor “has no end”. So become and expert VR swordsman or get your quarantine body in shape, your choice!
