Is Lineage II popular in Korea?
Lineage II: Revolutions is a mobile app game like no other. It is based off of the wildly popular Korean game by NCSoft, Lineage II, which has a cult following in its homeland for nearly 20 years! There are even televised matches complete with commentators!
How old is Lineage II?
Lineage II was an MMORPG that was released in 2003 that I use to describe as being the older brother to World of Warcraft (WOW) but a lot more hardcore. The art and character design in L2 are nothing short of gorgeous and highly stylized. The game was criticized and praised by some for the revealing armor variants that the female characters wore, some say it was overly sexy, watching a dark elf run from behind while she’s wearing a G string. It might be a little too much for some sensitive gamers. When I heard the game was being made into a mobile version I didn’t think that it would be possible being that the game was so massive in its original version. Thanks to advances in phone technology and the Unreal gaming engine, what required a high-end gaming PC in 2003, can now be ran on the most current smart phone technology and it is beautiful!
When does Lineage II: Revolutions take place?
The game takes place in the land of Aden, 100 years before the events of Lineage II. Aden is an enchanted place full of dangerous monsters, dungeons, and castles for players to explore and own! Players have a wide range of activities to take part in like quests, clan battles, and castle sieges!
What kind of characters can I create in Lineage II Revolutions?
Like any good MMORPG L2R has a diverse range of characters to choose from. Gamets have the choice in creating a classic elf, dark elf, orc, human, dwarf, and Kamael characters. Kamael are a new race of character, created by Giants, and use elemental magic. Both male and female versions are available for all races.
once a player picks their race next comes their class. Base skill attributes like Warrior, mage, and archer. Lineage to is based off of the classic DND system so you have your tank class, healer, range, DPS, and damage dealer. The classes have subclasses that players can choose to specialize in. These classes take into account the types of weapons and armor the players chooses to play with.
Players can also create multiple characters on one account and share items between their characters. This allows gamers the opportunity to try out different races in classes to see what better benefits them or send to better balance out their parties with friends. For instance while playing solo a gamer might like a damaged dealing dark else but in a group setting they need a healer or a tank. Being able to share assets among your creative characters is a benefit and helps you level up faster.
What kind of armor and weapons are available in Lineage II?
Depending on the class that a player selects it will determine what weapon the character is most effective with. If players prefer ranged combat, then a bow would be best. For up close battle, a dagger or a sword and shield combination might be most useful. Just equipping a weapon isn’t enough in the land of Aden. Players can enchant their weapons to strengthen them. There is a chance to fail which results in the player losing the items that they were trying to enchant with but the original weapon stays intact. The same goes with enchanting armor and jewelry. The enchanting system really gives players the opportunity to make their character completely unique from other characters.
How does combat work in Lineage II: Revolutions?
The game is set up in a third person Action view very similar to Diablo and other dungeon type games. There is a virtual joystick on the lower left of the screen that allows the player to control their character. Once the action starts the player can assign different spells and actions to the action bar on the lower right hand of the screen, which automatically cycles through during combat and will be activated once the timer for the move recharges. This helps reduce the amount of chaos in gameplay that would result from having too much control over the action with so many other players interacting on the screen. It’s really becomes apparent in larger events like castle sieges and dungeon raids.
Players can go on a quest to earn companions NPC’s that will aid them in battle. There are cute little angels, unicorns, baby dragons, that all do different things for the player.
Players can also quest to earn mounts that they can ride in the wild. Some of these are creatures and some are actual vehicles.
Players can join clans, which are groups of other players, in order to take part in exclusive events. You can create your own clan or you can join an already existing clan. Joining a clan has its benefits like stat increases as well as access to dungeons and a clan hall where players can gather and feast together, which gives the players an in-game buff. Chat is accomplished via the in-game chat system which has different tabs for general, sales, clan, group, and friends chat.
How do Castle sieges and dungeon raids work in Lineage II Revolutions?
One of the unique gameplay features in Lineage II Revolutions is the castle siege events. This is an event where several clans join in battle against another large group of clans defending a castle. The players have to take down the external defenses and work their way into the castle as the other team defends. This event can last for almost an hour but the rewards for taking part in the event are worth it. The side that wins the castle is given a physical buff that lasts the week that they own the castle!
The same goes for dungeon raids. Dungeons are timed events where groups or clans can take part in together. It’s not recommended that players try to solo a dungeon. These dungeons are instanced events with a large amount of hard to defeat mobs and a boss mob that will reward the party for defeating it. Don’t “Leroy Jenkins”please!
Do you even Quest bro?
If you want to Lonewolf it, there is plenty of opportunity to do that as well in quests, solo dungeons, and in the battle arena.
The world is covered in quest givers and there is never a lack of things to do in Lineage. There are quests to hunt certain monsters, questions for mounts, quests for certain types of armor and weapons. All these quests can be a little overwhelming but there is no lack of content in this game and it’s all kept organized by color in a handy drop down menu. The colors reflect the difficulty for the players current rank.
The battle arena is a place where players can take part in player vs. player (PVP) combat. Players are ranked in the battle arena according to how well they do and are given rewards based off of that rank including exclusive titles which also gives buffs and bonuses to the players stats.
Lineage II Revolutions is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game with an emphasis on massive! This is one of the biggest most ambitious mobile app games I have ever played! There are micro transactions available for players to purchase to expedite the leveling process but I have never felt the need to or had to buy anything extra because of the amount of content and rewards I get from just playing the game. There are limitless dialogue encounters as well as unique character models and quests, it’s nothing short of impressive! If you’re into fantasy, MMORPGs, or just looking for a game that is going to take hours out of your day then I cannot recommend Lineage II Revolutions to you enough!
