Our Score

In September’s PlayStation Plus Free games we have a game that inspired a movie, a movie that inspired a game, and something exclusive to the lucky ones who have a PS5!*

  • Overcooked: All You Can Eat (PS5 only)
  • Hitman 2
  • Predator Hunting Grounds

Hitman 2

Release: November 18, 2018

Developer: IO Interactive

A sequel in the Hitman franchise, the seventh game chronologically, but the first solo attempt by IO interactive picks up with agent 47 in search for who he is, as are we all…as are we all. Apparently, Agent 47 has a brother from another mother out in the world who knows what 47 is and more importantly to 47, who he was and where he came from!

Hitman 2 is not like your normal fps shooter game. H2 allows the player the ability to choose the best way for them complete the mission. This allows for a range of assassinations that can challenge players to be an even more stealthy assassin or get really good at killing and hiding bodies. Players can disguise themselves in the clothes of their victims to move easier amongst enemies and hide their bodies to buy 47 more time to escape.

Hitman 2 has two multiplayer modes: Escalation and Sniper Assassin

In escalation players are given a target to eliminate they must do so unseen and must also hide the body long enough to get clear. The contracts rise in difficulty and in player objectives for a total of five rounds.

Sniper assassin puts a player in game with a partner side by side as you eliminate the targets in your contract.  These are entertaining missions where patience and a steady hand come into play.

Predator: Hunting Grounds

Release date: April 24, 2020

Developer: IIIFonic

Predator Hunting Grounds, Playsation Free Games

I have Been a longtime fan of the predator franchise. Since I was a young kid, I read the comic books and I played every game that came out no matter how bad they were. I even painted my paintball mask and wore dreadlocks while playing to look like the famous alien hunter. Unfortunately, Predator is one of those game licenses that has had a lot of potential but just is constantly disappointing. It’s a rarity that movie sequels hold up to the original. In my opinion, the Predator films have all been just as good as the original, but the video games keep missing.

I played Predators Hunting Ground beta with great anticipation and hope, but I was sadly disappointed. The Predator seemed way too overpowered and just like in the movies, the humans had little to no chance of survival and it was no fun, unlike in the movies. Perhaps that was the downfall of releasing a Beta that wasn’t properly balanced. It really turned me off to the game where I didn’t want to play it anymore. However, now that it’s this month’s free PSN game I gave it another shot and I’m glad to say that IOI has definitely taken care of some of the balance issues and made this a fun gaming experience.

There are two games modes in Predator: Hunting Grounds: Hunt and Clash

Hunt puts players in a fire team of 4 with a mission objective and a 5th player who is inserted as the Predator. That player is there to chew bubblegum and collect skulls! The fire team can win in a couple of different ways. They can kill the predator and guard the body until it is extracted or they can complete all of the mission objectives and make it to the helipad and be extracted before the Predator gets them. The Predator wins by eliminating the entire fire team.

Clash puts players against one another in a 4v4 competition securing an alien objective, a Predator body. Once the AO is secure players can take control of a predator.

Some of the added bonus and content comes in the form of interview tapes that give a deeper background into the movies and what happened to some of the characters after the roll credits ran. Players can also unlock weapon and character skins to personalize both their human and predator characters.

If you’re a Predator fan than I would definitely recommend playing Hunting Grounds especially now that most of us can pick it up for free!

Overcooked: All You Can Eat

Released:  November 10,2020

Developer: Team17

This months “Overcooked: All you can eat” is a special edition that is only free on the PS5 which includes Overcooked and Overcooked 2 with additional content including online play and enhanced 4K graphics. *The PS4 version is available for purchase for $39.99.

If you don’t have a PS5 yet, you can still save the games to your library!

Unfortunately, I do not own a PS5 yet so all I can say about this game is that it’s free and fans seem to love it! If you’re like me, and plan to get a pS5 someday and you want to download the games you’re missing out on, you still can! Download the PlayStation app for your phone and link your PSN account. In the PlayStation store next to the offers for this month’s games you’ll see the PS5 offer and the ability to “add to library”.  Voilà game will be available for you to download whenever you get your PS5! Enjoy!
