Ever since Rocket League burst onto the scene in 2015, helped with its inclusion
on PS Plus free game of the month selection. It has fast become a staple of the
Esports landscape, offering a fast-paced and balanced, competitive game for all
rocket-propelled battle car fanatics out there. The game has constantly received
updates, new game modes, innumerable cosmetics for players to choose from
and the game even swapped to a free to play model last summer.
What we are getting at here, is that this game isn’t afraid of taking big swings and
making changes where needed. Well, it seems that Psyonix is ready to make
another big swing. According to recent reports, it seems that a mobile version of
Rocket League titled Rocket League: Sideswipe will be making its way to Android
and IOS devices later this year.

According to Psyonix, this version of the game will offer a more condensed
version of the fully-fledged title. The games will offer solo and duo matchups and
each game will only last for two minutes rather than the conventional five-minute
games that we have become accustomed to. The game will also be played from
a different perspective, only allowing players to view the action from a side-on
angle. So we can only assume that this game will offer more 2.5D style gameplay
mechanics.
As you would expect, the game has reportedly been made from the ground up
and will borrow assets from the existing title. However, ultimately, this game is its
own entity and will offer players a brand-new Rocket league experience.
The game has already been confirmed as a free to play mobile title and if you are
really keen to get involved, there is currently an alpha test running for players
within Australia and New Zealand. So, if you guys are reading, be sure to get
signed up before the spaces are filled.
Sadly, we only know that this title is set for release at some point this year.
Psyonix is keeping their cards close to their chest at the moment and therefore,
we don’t have a clear-cut date that this game will become available to players.
That being said though, we hope that this game is a success and that this bold
move pays off for the franchise.

League: Sideswipe. What do you make of the news? Do you think this will be a
