Survival games have made a real impression on the mainstream gaming scene in
recent years. Games like The Forest, Stranded Deep, Subnautica and Conan
Exiles all boast loyal and sizable fanbases and it seems that the genre has a new
flagship title. Last week marked the release of Norse survival title Valheim and
since leaving early access, this title has made it all the way to the top of the
steam most popular list, with the title boasting 105K players at the time of writing.
This game saw off some prestigious competitors to earn this accolade, beating
the likes of Tale of Immortal and the much-anticipated port for Nioh 2. Valheim
managed to gather more attention than any other new game on the scene this
week and when we look at what the game has to offer, we can see why.

Odin Protect Us

For those unaware, Valheim is a survival title that takes the game approach as
some games we mentioned earlier such as The Forest or Stranded Deep. The
player will have to craft items, live off the land and fight off any predators, all very
familiar things. However, this game sets itself apart in a number of different ways.
Perhaps the most interesting of the bunch though has to be the intense fights
with literal gods within this title. The game also offers co-op for up to 10 players,
procedurally generated worlds to explore and a rather intuitive building and
combat system. This game looked promising in early access but now that we
have the finished article, we can confirm that this is a title that you don’t want to
miss.

A Continued Effort

Although this game has been met with a great deal of praise from fans and critics
alike, it seems that the developers aren’t resting on their laurels. Instead, they will
be continually updating and polishing this title to offer the most comprehensive
Viking survival sim on the market. They are the kings and queens of this niche
and they aim to keep it that way. Here are the updates that are set to come in
later updates to Valheim.

  • Multiplayer Interactions
  • Combat Improvements
  • Moon Phases
  • Tar Pits
  • Vendor Inventory Expansion
  • Svartalfr Brigands
  • More Unique Locations
  • Sandbox Mode
  • Munin

Regardless of how long this popularity lasts for the indie developer, it is still an
incredible achievement as of this moment to have so many players invested in
their title right off the bat. We will be following the developments regarding this
title and exploring the vast noise landscape for days to come. By the gods, don’t
miss out on this one.

So that’s our news regarding Valheim. What do you make of this game? Will you
be adding this to your Steam library? How do you think this game ranks amongst
the other survival titles out there? Let us know in the comments section below
and thank you for reading.
