If you’re a fan of Bungie’s otherworldly multiplayer FPS juggernaut Destiny, then you may be aware that year four of Destiny 2 is nearly upon us. This can only mean one thing, a new expansion filled with more narrative twists, strikes, raids, crucible maps, changes to the overall gameplay and most important of all, more loot. Beyond Light is set to be the next expansion in the series as we wave goodbye to the more than serviceable predecessor ‘Shadowkeep’. We are excited about this new expansion and if you aren’t aware of what its promising to players, allow us to enlighten you. Here is all we know about Destiny 2: Beyond Light ahead of its release on November 10th 2020.
Descending Into The Darkness Of Europa
The story for this expansion will primarily take place in a new area called Europa. This is a frozen moon that orbits the planet Jupiter, playing host to an empire of enemies who can harness the power of darkness. The player will have to explore this hostile planet and may even have to learn how to harness the power of darkness themselves to survive. You won’t have to do it alone though, as some familiar faces will be joining the party.
You’ll be linking up with characters from the original Destiny outing such as ‘The Drifter’ and ‘The Exo-Stranger’. Many fan theories have suggested that each of these characters will play a huge role in proceedings this time round, with the Exo-Stranger being your guide to harnessing the darkness, while The Drifter will act as somewhat of an antagonist, aiming to turn you against the traveller. It’s all very interesting and we can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.
The ‘DCV’ Is Cracked Open
Speaking of returning assets from the initial title, a new feature called the ‘DCV’ or ‘Destiny Content Vault’ is set to deliver some more. Admittedly, many fans are upset that some assets will be getting retired into this vault to make way for others. However, the ones coming out of retirement are bound to excite a few fans.
We are set to return to Earth with the Old Russian Cosmodrome becoming a playable area once again. Then if that’s not enough to get you excited, in 2021, we will be returning to Venus to take part in the Vault of Glass raid once again. Which means more exotic items, more hulking ultra enemies to kill and a whole lot of fun while you do it. So get your team prepped for the action before November 10th arrives.
New Gear
That’s right, what we all keep coming back for year after year, loot. This time around there will a whole cavalcade of content to add to your arsenal. So far we have only had a few confirmations from Bungie but what we know is more than enough to get you excited. Firstly we have the ‘No Time To Explain’ pulse rifle returning to the game, looking as slick as ever and promising to do some damage in the hands of a skilled guardian.
Then, courtesy of Luke Smith, the lead director, telling Dr Lupo in a recent interview, we know that we are also getting an old favourite back. We will be receiving ‘Hawkmoon’, a gun that you either love or hate thanks to its luck based attributes. However, Luke said that this gun’s ‘luck in the chamber’ perk is not as it once was to avoid any frustrating moments. We don’t know how it will handle this time around but we can’t wait to find out.
Dynamic Weather
Then lastly, we want to touch on the dynamic weather system. This one may seem a little arbitrary. However, we think that visuals add to immersion and therefore, the overall experience so listen up. The developers are adding dynamic weather to the environment of Europa, which means no more set weather patterns. Here you’ll see the sunset and rise at different times of day, you’ll see rain, sunny skies and you’ll also witness snowstorms that may require you to favour a thermal scope to be effective. It’s a fun addition that will surely only improve the already phenomenal Destiny 2 visual experience.
All Aboard The Hype Train
As you can see, there is quite a sizable amount of content set to arrive in Destiny 2 in the upcoming Beyond Light expansion. Visuals are set to improve, the gameplay is set to offer more variety to the player and the narrative look set to continue to intrigue and captivate audiences all around the globe. It’s a great time to jump back in or pick up Destiny 2 for the first time as year four begins. So all aboard the hype train because this train pulls into the station on November 10th, not long to wait now.
