To celebrate the release of much anticipated PewDiePie‘s new game PewdiePie: Legend of Brofist (not familiar? read about it here!), let’s talk about our favorite power Youtuber, PewDiePie and his own legend of becoming the biggest fish in the ocean called YouTube.
Here is Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg‘s conquering of YouTube in chronological order. (and some hand selected pictures of PewDiePie because he is a good looking fella!)
- December 2006: Joined YouTube under channel name PewDie (according to Wikipedia entry, it is combination of ‘pew’, sound of laser weapon and ‘die’, event that usually follows if you are hit by laser weapon)
- April 2010: Registered new channel PewDiePie, due to lost password of earlier channel. (‘pie’ was added to his old name because he likes pie)
- Somewhere between above and below dates PewDiePie met his girlfriend, Marzia Bisognin aka CutiePieMarzia
- December 2011: His channel amassed 60,000 subscribers
- June 2012: 700,000 subscribers. PewDiePie spoke at Nonick Conference 2012 under the topic of “Having Let’s Play As a Job”
- July 2012: PewDiePie reached his first 1 million subscribers mark
- September 2012: 2 million subscribers
- December 2012: 3 million subscribers
- January 2013: 4 million subscribers
- Feburary 2013: 5 million subscribers
- March 2013: 6 million subscribers
- April 2013: PewDiePie was featured in New York Times article “Glue to Tube” along with other famous Youtubers such as Smosh, Ray William Johnson, nigahiga, Hola Soy German, Michelle Phan. And his channel reached 7 million subscribers.
- May 2013: 8 million subscribers
- June 2013: 9 million subscribers
- July 2013: He pushed Jenna Marbles out of his way to the second most subscribed Youtuber spot and surpassed 11 million subscribers
- August 2013: PewDiePie overtook Smosh‘s channel while reaching 12 millions subscribers
- September 2013: 13 million subscribers
- October 2013: His channel PewDiePie became the first YouTube channel to reach 15 million subscribers mark
- November 2013: 17 million subscribers
- December 2013: 19 million subscribers
Quick remarks on 2013: Please bear with me as I am about to geek out here. In year of 2013 alone, PewDiePie gained 15 million susbscribers which means he gained (average):
- 1,250,000 subscribers per month
- 288,462 subscribers per week
- 41,096 subscribers per day
- 1,712.3 subscribers per hour
- 28.5 subscribers per minute or 57 subscribers every two minutes
- 0.5 subscribers per second or 1 subscriber every two seconds
- Increase on number of subscribers in 2013 is a mere 375%, in case above figures are not impressive enough…
- January 2014: 21 million subscribers
- February 2014: 24 million subscribers
- March 2014: 25 million subscribers
- April 2014: 26 million subscribers
- May 2014: 27 million subscribers
- June 2014: 28 million subscribers
- July 2014: 29 million subscribers

Quick remarks on 2014: From January to Feburary of 2014, 3,000,000 additional folks decided to join Bro Army. - March 2015: 35 million subscribers
- April 2015: 36 million subscribers
- June 2015: 37 million subscribers
- July 2015: 38 million subscribers
- September 2015: Total number of subscribers at 39,491,679. And… He cut his hair really, really short!

So, while most of the world who is over 30 years old hasn’t heard of PewDiePie, Felix has quietly amassed a following worthy of some of the biggest nations in the world.
That’s pretty d@mn good for a former hot dog guy looking to make a couple of videos!
